Murder suspect identified in Oshawa double stabbing remains at large

A suspect has been identified in the double stabbing that cost a young woman her life last weekend, though the suspect remains at large.
Two women were stabbed near Simcoe St. and Adelaide Ave. around 4 a.m. on Mar. 12. Durham Regional Police arrived soon after a found both victims suffering critical injuries.
The women were both rushed to a Toronto trauma centre for treatment. However, one of the women succumbed to her wounds and died in hospital on Mar. 14.
The victim has since been identified as Katie Kainz, a 26-year-old mental health and addiction worker. A GoFundMe has since been set up to support her family. The second victim, who remains unidentified, is listed as in stable condition.
The day after Kainz’s death police announced a Canada-wide arrest warrant for a suspect in her murder.
Adam Odette, 37 of Oshawa, is wanted for second-degree murder and attempted murder. Police advise Odette to contact a lawyer and turn himself in. Anyone sheltering or helping Odette can also be charged as a party to the crime.

Kainz’s murder is the sixth in Durham Region and third in Oshawa in 2023 following the stabbing death of John Genereux, 66 in Uxbridge on January, the murder of Ken Chopee, 58, in Oshawa on Jan. 27, the shooting of Aram Kamel and Rafad Alzubaidy in Bowmanville on Feb. 4, and the death of an unidentified man before a house fire in Oshawa on March 6.
