Police looking for public’s help in ID’ing murder victim from downtown Oshawa house fire

Durham Police are hoping the public can help identify a man murdered at a house fire on Court Street in downtown Oshawa the morning of March 6.

The man was found dead after the fire at 99 Court Street, which Oshawa Fire Chief Derrick Clark and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office say was deliberately set. The case was upgraded to a homicide investigation after an autopsy found the victim had suffered an “unspecified trauma” prior to his death. This was the fifth murder in Durham Region in 2023.

Investigators have exhausted all traditional means of identification and are requesting the assistance of the public in putting a name to the victim.

The man is described as approximately 25, 5’11” to 6” and weighing 160 to 190 lbs.  The victim’s hair was shaved at the sides with two long braids starting an inch back from his forehead. He is possibly of south-east Asian descent and may go by the nickname of ‘Ox.’
