Double-digit temperatures and clear sunny skies will hit pause this week in southern Ontario as a mix of rain, snow, and colder weather moves in.

Last week began with abundant sunshine and warm temperatures, reaching a peak of 17 C. However, it quickly shifted into dark clouds, rain and blustering winds of up to 70 km/h. Temperatures also fell into the negatives with wind chills reaching -9 C.

This week, residents of Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Halton, and Durham may want to keep their winter gear and umbrellas on standby as soggy weather is forecasted for the next few days.

As of today (March 17), it will be partly cloudy throughout the day with a 30 per cent chance of rain or snow. Temperatures will reach a high of 5 C before dropping to -3 C tonight but it will feel much colder with a -9 C wind chill. Wind speeds are also expected to increase, gusting to 50 km/h.

Monday will begin with a chilly start as temperatures hit -9 C. It will be fairly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of rain or snow in the morning, potentially continuing into the afternoon. As the day goes on, it will gradually get warmer, reaching a high of 3 C. The skies will remain cloudy and by the evening temperatures will dip to -4 C.

Tuesday will be another overcast day with a high of 1 C. There’s a 40 per cent chance of snow, though the approximate amount is unknown. Closer to the evening, temperatures will fall to -3 C with a 40 per cent of snow making a return.

Environment Canada predicts a mix of sun and clouds on Wednesday and Thursday with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. Temperatures will hover between -1 C and 3 C throughout the day, then plummet to -9 C in the evening. Snowfall is also expected.

Meteorologists anticipate similar weather conditions for Friday and Saturday, forecasting cloudy skies and sunny breaks. Temperatures will range from minus 1 to plus 1. The cloudy periods will continue into the evening with temperatures going as low as -9 C.

It appears that the gloomy weather will linger much longer, bringing plenty of rain well into the Easter long weekend.
