This year seemed to both drag on and fly by at the same time and there was plenty of big news to focus on.

These are the biggest news stories in Brampton in 2021.

Diwali Fireworks:

After a year where celebrations were forced to move online, many were thrilled to have in-person events return in time for Diwali this year, but many residents felt some went a little overboard when it came to the fireworks.

Speed Enforcement Cameras:

When restrictions once again started to ease, and many residents returned to the office, the City began taking additional measures, including speed enforcement cameras, in order to reduce speeding, and mitigate the severity of crashes.

Vaccine Passport Enforcement:

Once vaccines were finally available, many saw them as a way out of restrictions and isolation, but not everyone was immediately on board, as a result, the Province issued a mandate for vaccines, but there was a decent amount of confusion regarding who was going to enforce these mandates.

Navdeep Bains Career Pivot:

This past fall, the former minister of innovation, science and industry, and five-term MP for both Brampton and Mississauga announced he was getting out of politics and accepting the role as vice-chair of global investment banking for CIBC.
