From Nashville hot chicken and specialty coffee to Caribbean cuisine and flame-grilled favourites, several new restaurants opened their doors in Mississauga and Brampton in June.

Here are five spots worth checking out.

Juicy Birds

An Ontario-based fried chicken chain specializing in Nashville-style hot chicken has opened its first Brampton location.

Juicy Birds is known for its hand-breaded chicken tenders, spicy chicken sandwiches, wings, mac and cheese bowls and chicken and waffles, along with halal-certified menu options.

The new restaurant opened at 9055 Airport Rd., giving Brampton its first Juicy Birds location. The chain now operates a dozen restaurants across the GTA.

The restaurant celebrated its grand opening with one-day specials and says its chicken is brined for about 18 hours before being hand-breaded fresh to order.

Lazzat Grill & Shakes

A new Brampton restaurant is putting flame-grilled cooking at the centre of its menu.

Lazzat Grill & Shakes serves kebabs, bowls, wraps and roasted chicken cooked over lava stones, along with handcrafted fruit shakes made without syrups or artificial flavourings.

The restaurant says every protein is flame-grilled rather than deep-fried and offers a selection of house-made sauces, including Twisted BBQ, Mango Sauce and its signature Lazzat sauce.

Lazzat Grill & Shakes is now open at 11685 McVean Dr. and says additional Brampton locations are already planned.

Wildflower Kitchen + Social

Wildflower Kitchen + Social officially opened at 35 Brunel Rd., transforming a former entertainment venue into a modern restaurant, cocktail lounge and event space.

The restaurant serves contemporary Caribbean dishes, including breadfruit and saltfish croquettes, oxtail bara tacos, jerk barbecue chicken, pepper shrimp pasta and braised lamb shank.

Along with dinner service, Wildflower also offers handcrafted cocktails, live DJs on Friday and Saturday nights and event space for private celebrations and corporate functions.

Coffee at Carlton’s

A popular Toronto café has expanded to Mississauga with a spacious new location in Port Credit.

Coffee at Carlton’s has opened inside the Brightwater Experience Centre, serving espresso drinks, cortados, cappuccinos, Americanos and fresh pastries.

The café features floor-to-ceiling windows, comfortable seating and a fireplace, offering customers a new gathering space within the Brightwater development.

The Mississauga café joins the company’s original downtown Toronto location, which has operated for several years.

Bhai’s Burgers

A restaurant in Brampton is combining classic smash burgers with bold Indian flavours.

Bhai’s Burgers serves menu items including the Paratha Smash Burger, Tandoori Chicken Crunch, Paneer Crunch Munch, loaded fries, poutine and fried chicken, with the option to upgrade burgers to a lamb patty.

The restaurant says its menu blends Canadian comfort food with Indian-inspired flavours and also operates a food truck serving Brampton and surrounding communities.

Bhai’s Burgers is now open at 244 Queen St. E.
