4 restaurants that closed in Toronto in June 2026

Several Toronto restaurants announced closures in June, marking the end of the road for some longtime businesses while others look toward an uncertain future.

Here are four restaurants that closed in June:

Ko’ox Hana

A beloved Mexican restaurant in Toronto’s Kensington Market has closed after serving authentic Mayan and Yucatán cuisine for years.

Ko’ox Hana became known for its regional specialties, including its signature Chilaca and Campechano tacos, as well as traditional dishes such as Lima soup and Huevos Motuleños.

“As we prepare to close this chapter, we want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported us throughout the years,” the restaurant said in a social media post. “It has been an honour to share our culture, traditions and cuisine with this community.”

The restaurant said its future remains uncertain and has not announced whether it plans to reopen elsewhere. Ko’ox Hana’s final day of service was June 30.

Modus Ristorante

An Italian fine dining restaurant in Toronto’s Financial District has closed after nearly 15 years in business.

Founded in 2011, Modus Ristorante built its reputation on handmade pastas, premium cuts of meat, seafood dishes and an extensive wine selection.

“This is not a goodbye, it’s an evolution,” founder Sam Genkov said, announcing that the restaurant will be transformed into a new concept led by the next generation of the family.

While the Modus name has come to an end, the family says some familiar elements will remain as the space undergoes a complete redesign. The restaurant served its final guests on June 2.

Hibachi

A downtown Toronto location of the popular teppanyaki restaurant chain Hibachi has permanently closed.

The restaurant was known for its interactive dining experience, where chefs prepared steak, seafood, chicken and other dishes on a hot grill in front of guests.

“As one of our very first locations, Downtown Toronto will always hold a special place in our hearts,” the restaurant said in a social media post. “We are grateful for every guest, every celebration, and every memory we’ve shared together over the years.”

While the downtown location has closed, Hibachi continues to operate several restaurants across Ontario, including locations in Mississauga, North York, Vaughan, Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton. The final day of service was June 21.

La Cubana

A popular Cuban restaurant on Ossington Avenue has closed after more than a decade in Toronto.

La Cubana became known for its Cuban-inspired comfort food and served as the flagship location for the local restaurant brand.

“After struggling through the pandemic, subsequent inflation, high food costs, tax, insurance and energy increases, many weather events, and other factors, it has simply become unsustainable,” owner Pablo Mozo said in a social media post announcing the closure.

The restaurant invited customers to visit one last time before closing, thanking the community for years of support and the memories shared at the restaurant. The final day of service was June 28.
