A new month brought another round of restaurant closures in Toronto, including a Michelin-recognized eatery and a longtime local favourite.

Here are three restaurants in Toronto that announced closures in July:

PG Clucks

After about a decade serving fried chicken sandwiches in Toronto, PG Clucks has announced it is closing.

The restaurant said the decision came as it refused to significantly raise menu prices despite rising operating costs.

“The reality is that we can’t continue to offer our huge sandwiches at current prices, and we’re not interested in selling takeout chicken sandwiches for $15+,” the restaurant said in a post on Instagram.

PG Clucks said its flagship College Street location has already closed, while its Queen Street location will serve its final customers on July 25.

Owners said they plan to transform the Queen Street space into a new restaurant concept that better reflects today’s economic realities.

Famiglia Baldassarre

Michelin-recognized restaurant Famiglia Baldassarre has announced it will end lunch service this summer as it returns to its roots as a wholesale fresh pasta producer.

The restaurant, which began making fresh pasta in a downtown Toronto basement 16 years ago before moving to Geary Avenue in 2017, said its final lunch service will take place on Aug. 14.

Ownership said the business will shift its focus to producing fresh pasta for restaurants across Toronto, adding that future collaborations and new concepts are already being considered.

Known for its limited daily lunch menu featuring handmade pasta, Famiglia Baldassarre was recognized by the Michelin Guide for its cooking and unique factory-style dining experience.

Electric Bill Bar

The Electric Bill Bar has announced it will close later this summer after several years in Toronto’s Bloorcourt neighbourhood.

Known for its Australian-inspired cocktails and casual food menu, the bar said ongoing operational challenges ultimately led to the decision.

“The hospitality industry is one of the greatest industries that anyone can be a part of, but it is also one of the least forgiving,” the owner said in an Instagram post.

The Electric Bill Bar is expected to serve its final customers on Aug. 16 as owners prepare to close the business.
