A beloved Michelin-recognized restaurant has announced its abrupt closure in Toronto.
Famiglia Baldassarre, which had its humble beginnings making fresh pasta in a downtown basement 16 years ago, has announced that its iconic lunch spot will be halting operations come this August.
The announcement came via an Instagram post, where ownership stated that the full-service dining location would be pumping the brakes.
As for why, the powers behind Baldassarre stated that it would be due to returning to their roots and entering wholesale fresh pasta-making operations to supply other restaurants in Toronto.
“10 years of doing this lunch service, 10 years of doing something this against the grain — for this long — is something to be really proud of,” said ownership in the post.
Famiglia Baldassarre’s menu consisted of dynamite pasta and lunch options like fresh spinach and ricotta ravioli, crudo di Parma, tagliatelle, and deliciously snackable fior de latte.

While its streamlined menu and humble location in the booming Geary neighbourhood made it loved by locals and recognized by the Michelin Guide, it looks like the location is changing gears, and for the time being.
“This closure may be for a couple of months, or it may be for a year,” stated the owner in the post. “ Look, I can’t not cook, so something will happen soon in some way, shape or form, and I’m excited to do some collaborations with other chefs.”
While nothing has been set in stone for plans beyond pasta making, ownership continues to promise that the spirit of Famiglia Baldassarre will be seen in other locations across the city.
Famiglia Baldassarre’s last lunch service will be on Aug. 14 at 122 Geary Avenue, Toronto, ON.
