one of two unsafe playgrounds reopens in mississauga.

One playground in Mississauga’s north end has reopend to the public after “safety deficiencies” were addressed while a second play area located nearby remains shut down, the city says.

The play equipment at Eden Woods Park, located just southeast of Tenth Line West and Aquitaine Avenue in Meadowvale, opened to kids once again this past Friday after being deemed safe to use, Mississauga Ward 9 Coun. Martin Reid said in an update to the community the same day.

However, the playground at Edengrove Park, a short distance south of Eden Woods Park, is still closed while repairs continue, the councillor added.

Both play areas were closed to the public earlier this spring for repairs/safety enhancements, according to the City of Mississauga. Initially, the contractor doing the work hoped to have both areas reopened by June 4.

In his latest update to residents, Reid said on June 12 that “all required repairs and safety-related corrections at the Eden Woods playground have now been completed” and that construction fencing had been removed on Friday morning.

“With respect to the Edengrove playground,” he continued, “work is advancing and the contractor has made progress on the required safety repairs. We will provide a further update following a detailed review with the contractor on remaining contract requirements.”

In an earlier update to the community, Reid said city officials “recognize the importance of these community spaces for local families and residents and understand the inconvenience this closure may cause. We appreciate your patience and understanding as this work continues.”

The councillor added his office will continue to provide regular updates to residents.

The play areas at Eden Woods and Edengrove parks were renovated with new equipment and safety features last fall. However, the sites were temporarily closed once safety concerns were identified earier this year.

The specific concerns have not been divulged.

Last fall, the City of Mississauga said work to install new play equipment and other features to improve safety and accessibility at the two Meadowvale parks, in addition to nearby Charles “Bud” Brennan Park, was underway and scheduled for completion in mid-October (Edengrove and Bud Brennan parks) and early November (Eden Woods).

The work included:

  • Replacement of playground equipment
  • Installation of engineered wood mulch safety surfacing
  • Paved trail connections and accessible playground ramp
  • New seating

The three play areas were closed to the public while the work was completed.

Similar work was being completed at dozens of other public playgrounds across Mississauga, city officials said earlier in 2025.
