On National Pet Day, Brampton firefighters demonstrate how crews can save animal’s lives.

April 11 is National Pet Day, a day dedicated to giving pets a little extra love and attention, and Brampton Fire and Emergency Services highlighted the day with a short video.

“Brampton Fire and Emergency Services and Brampton Animal Services know how important pets are to everyone,” Brampton Fire coordinator Tina Hickey says in the video posted to X today.

Hickey says Brampton Fire sometimes responds to house fires where pets suffer from smoke inhalation.

All Brampton fire trucks have pet resuscitators on board to help dogs or cats in this situation, she says.

Volunteer dog, Buster, helped in the demonstration showing how the pet resuscitator mask is fitted over a pet’s nose. The resuscitator is attached to a hose and oxygen tank.

Buster does not appear thrilled with the process but the oxygen could save a pet’s life.

There are many cases fire crews have rescued pets. Back in 2019, two cats were saved after a kitchen fire in Brampton.

For those looking to adopt a cat or dog, Brampton Animal Services has many pets available for adoption.

“Give a little extra love and pampering to your pet, or if you can, consider enriching your life by adopting a pet,” Brampton Fire and Emergency Services says in the post.
