renovated park reopens in mississauga.

A reimagined park in Mississauga’s east end that features an upgraded playground, a new spray pad and pickleball courts — among other amenities — will officially reopen the end of next week.

The City of Mississauga says it’s hosting the reopening one week from Saturday (June 20) at Gulleden Park, located beside Burnhamthorpe Community Centre in the Dixie and Burnhamthorpe roads area of the city.

The renovated park includes various new and upgraded features, city officials say, including:

  • A refrigerated ice skating rink with summer programming options.
  • Two dedicated pickleball courts, a multi‑use court and two lit tennis courts.
  • A community spray pad and upgraded playground.
  • An accessible trail system to support walking, rolling and inclusive mobility.
  • An outdoor fitness area with equipment for all skill levels.
  • Junior skateboard features for beginners, including small ramps, rails and seat walls.
  • New tree planting and pollinator gardens to support environmental sustainability and habitat creation.

The June 20 reopening event begins at 1 p.m. with a ceremony, followed by an introduction to the various park amenities. A barbecue and marketplace, the latter featuring vendors from the city and broader community, runs from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Members of the public are invited to attend the reopening festivities, which will also be attended by Mississauga Ward 3 Coun. Chris Fonseca, other city councillors and additional guests.

The park is located at 1500 Gulleden Dr.

City officials said Gulleden Park has been redeveloped “to enhance the overall park experience and provide improved, modern amenities for the surrounding community and visitors alike.”

The park redevelopment project, which began with public engagement in 2021 and 2022 and was followed by start of construction in 2024, focused on “accessibility, year‑round amenities and upgraded recreational features for residents of all ages,” officials added.

Several of the park’s aging amenities were upgraded or replaced during the renovation work.

City officials said on the project website they proceeded with the work after receiving feedback from residents “to understand what type of park experience and amenities will best serve the community.”

The public engagement process included surveys and public meetings to inform and develop plans for the reimagined park, the city noted.

In addition to the public engagement, the city also reached out to the Peel District School Board, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and Our Place Peel for feedback in late 2022.
