St. Catharines neighbourhood has the second highest COVID-19 positivity in Ontario

Several areas in Niagara region are among those with the highest COVID-19 percent positivity rates (percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the area) in Ontario, according to recent data from Toronto-based research group ICES.

ICES listed postal code areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of October 17 to 23.

Of the top 50 listed, seven are in Niagara region:

2nd highest positivity in Ontario

Postal code L2E at 6.88% (Niagara Falls)
12th highest positivity in Ontario

Postal code L2S at 6.44% (St. Catharines)
14th highest positivity in Ontario

Postal code L3M at 5.65% (Grimsby)
20th highest positivity in Ontario

Postal code L2P at 5.11% (St. Catharines)
26th highest positivity in Ontario

Postal code L2R at 4.33% (St. Catharines)
41st highest positivity in Ontario

Postal code L2H at 4.31% (Niagara Falls)
43rd highest positivity in Ontario

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of October 10 was 1.5%, down 0.2% from the previous week, according to ICES’s data.

The same data indicates that out of all of Ontario’s 34 public health units, Niagara had the sixth highest COVID-19 percent positivity for the week.
