The good news for Pearson Airport in Mississauga and travellers is that business is once again picking up at the airport as COVID-19 travel restrictions are eased or eliminated altogether.

The not so good news, but for the most part unavoidable, is the near-return to normalcy also potentially means longer lineups and waits at the airport.

While pre-pandemic traveller numbers at Pearson have not yet returned, the recent upsurge–particularly an increase in arriving international flights–has reportedly created some lengthy lines at the airport.

According to the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), which runs Pearson, a recent increase in the number of international passengers during peak travel times has posed some challenges.

Because some pandemic-related air travel restrictions are still in place, the increase in passenger traffic has led to some longer-than-usual waits for travellers.

Some 30,000 international travellers are arriving each day at Pearson, and that number is expected to climb to 45,000 during the summer.

Additionally, Sunwing Airline’s major technical issues that arose last week, delaying tens of thousands of passengers for days, are still impacting travellers at Pearson.

As always, airport officials urge frustrated travellers to be patient and ask that they interact politely with Pearson staff.

Incoming travellers are also reminded they must still submit personal information using the ArriveCAN app before landing in Canada.
