Porter Airlines flight declares emergency, diverts to Pearson Airport in Mississauga

A Porter Airlines passenger flight from Montreal scheduled to land on Tuesday afternoon at Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto was forced to declare an emergency and instead landed safely at Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

A spokesperson for the Toronto-based airline told insauga.com in an email that “the diversion took place as a precaution due to a hydraulic indication” and that the incoming flight did land safely at Pearson “without incident.”

The flight was diverted to Pearson to give it access to a longer runway, if needed, according to reports.

A Porter maintenance team is now assessing the incident.

The aircraft was nearly at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport when circumstances deemed it necessary for the flight crew to alter landing plans.

The flight had left Montreal just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday and was scheduled to land in Toronto at about 2:30 p.m., according to flight data on RadarBox.com.

Porter Airlines previously ran its passenger planes exclusively out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport before announcing last December its new relationship with Pearson.

Since linking up with Pearson, Porter has aggressively expanded its flight schedule and list of North American destinations, including most recently flights to Florida.

The carrier began service to Fort Lauderdale’s Hollywood International Airport on Nov. 30 from both Pearson and Ottawa International Airport in the nation’s capital.
