Police are on scene in south Oshawa investigating after a man was found unconscious.

Durham Regional Police announced shortly before 11 a.m. January 12 that a man had been found unconscious hours earlier around 1:30 a.m. The man was found near Park Rd. and Malaga Rd. and rushed to a trauma centre.

Police have not specified the nature of the man’s injuries or condition.

The area he was found is home to the General Motors assembly plant. Across the road from the factory is a small commercial plaza which has lately seen major crimes.

On December 4, Teil-lyn Cook, 19 was stabbed in the chest in front of Fox and the Goose sports bar inside the plaza. She succumbed to her wounds on December 9, becoming Durham Region’s 15th and final murder victim of 2022. Maliek Morgan, 24 of Pickering, has since been charged with second-degree murder in that case.

Weeks later on January 10, the plaza was the site of a robbery after an unidentified trio targeted the Lakeview Pharmacy in the plaza. The three made off with narcotic drugs and fled the scene, leaving the workers unharmed.

As of this writing the plaza remains closed for investigation and the businesses inside are inaccessible. Any witnesses to the event in question can call police at 905-579-1520.
