PHOTOS: Iconic roller-coaster getting ‘big upgrades’ in Canada

Work is continuing on an iconic roller-coaster in Canada.

Canada’s Wonderland posted photos showing the track replacement project for the Mighty Canadian Minebuster.

The park, located in Vaughan, said the project is providing “big upgrades for a big coaster.”

“As part of our ongoing rides maintenance program, we are replacing 960 feet (276 metres) of track on our wooden roller-coaster Mighty Canadian Minebuster and installing a vertical engineered track system,” Canada’s Wonderland spokesperson Grace Peacock previously told INsauga.com.

“This innovative approach from The Gravity Group uses vertically stacked lumber instead of horizontal plywood under the layers of steel, promising a stronger track system, a smoother ride and better experience for our guests overall.”

The Mighty Canadian Minebuster was one of the four original roller-coasters at Canada’s Wonderland when the park opened in 1981.

It is the longest single-track wooden roller-coaster in Canada at 3,559 feet and was modeled after a ride at Coney Island in New York City.

Meanwhile, a brand new roller-coaster is set to open at the park this year.

AlpenFury will be the “longest, tallest and fastest launch coaster in the country,” Canada’s Wonderland has said.
