A video posted online shows workers dismantling part of an iconic roller-coaster at Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan.
Priestly Demolition was contracted for the project involving the Mighty Canadian Minebuster, which was one of four original roller-coasters when the park opened in 1981.
The ride isn’t being destroyed — nearly 1,000 feet of track is being replaced.
“As part of our ongoing rides maintenance program, we are replacing 960 feet (276 metres) of track on our wooden roller-coaster Mighty Canadian Minebuster and installing a vertical engineered track system,” Canada’s Wonderland spokesperson Grace Peacock said.
“This innovative approach from The Gravity Group uses vertically stacked lumber instead of horizontal plywood under the layers of steel, promising a stronger track system, a smoother ride and better experience for our guests overall.”
Priestly Demolition posted the video of its work.
The team used equipment in order to climb each section and create cut points, the company said.
“Using a combination of hand tools and a 50T crane, the team hoisted each section into trailers for proper disposal,” they said.
The Mighty Canadian Minebuster is the longest single-track wooden roller-coaster in Canada at 3,559 feet and was modeled after a ride at Coney Island in New York City.
