VIDEO: Update on new roller-coaster set to open this year in Canada

Construction is moving along on a new roller-coaster that’s set to open this year in Canada.

Canada’s Wonderland posted an update on progress being made on the AlpenFury ride, which the amusement park in Vaughan has said will be the “longest, tallest and fastest launch coaster in the country.”

Canada’s Wonderland director of maintenance and construction Peter Switzer said that foundation construction has been completed and the steel has started to go up.

“We’ve got columns and track in the air,” he said.

“That work will continue.”

Station construction is ongoing, as is site work and electrical installation, he said.

Detailing is also underway on the ride’s trains.

AlpenFury interacts with the iconic Wonder Mountain, and Switzer said there is still “a lot to do” in regards to that but added that it’s progressing.

“There’s several low-clearance interactions throughout the passage into the mountain and out of the mountain. So that’s exciting,” Switzer said.

“The launch is inside the mountain. I think that’ll be exciting because of the acceleration through the dark portions of the mountain,” he added.

When the launch ride is finished, it will span 1,000 metres across the park, Canada’s Wonderland said in a previous news release.

It will reach speeds of 115 km/h, “flipping and twisting through nine breathtaking inversions – the most of any launch coaster in the world,” the release said.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Wonderland recently confirmed that the Time Warp roller-coaster is being removed after around 20 years.
