A flooded area of Brampton is seeing improvements, but the threat of more heavy rainfall could throw a wrench into things.
Churchville Road at Steeles Avenue was one of at least seven areas in the city that saw flooding this week after two days of warming temperatures and significant rain, forcing some residents in the area to be evacuated from their homes.
In an update today (Feb. 21), Brampton’s emergency management office says two excavators are working for the remainder of the day to remove an ice jam from the river, while three pumps are operating to protect low-lying areas.
Crews also used six dumps trucks to remove large pieces of ice on the south side of the bridge along Creditview Road.
The office says water levels are improving and residents have been able to return to their homes.
However, more periods of heavy rainfall are expected to hit the region starting Monday evening or Tuesday morning and continuing until Tuesday evening.
Total rainfall amounts of 15 to 20 mm are possible, which combined with warmer temperatures tomorrow (high of 10 degrees Celsius) could lead to a risk of further flooding in localized areas.
Residents are advised to monitor for flooding in their communities and report any flooding to the city by calling 311 or emailing [email protected].
