Fourteen people have died in Hamilton this year after being struck by a driver while they were on foot, cycling or using a mobility scooter. An 86-year-old woman died in late October after being hit at the intersection of Barton and Varga Drive in Stoney Creek.
Two days earlier, 65-year-old Manuel DeSouza, who was driving a mobility scooter at Barton and Wellington St. N., died after he was hit by a dump-truck driver. A safety audit has been ordered for the intersection.
