The list of highest paid public sector workers is out and the top Mississauga earner brought in more than $600,000 in 2024.
Also known as the Ontario Sunshine List, the Public Sector Salary Disclosure for workers earning over $100,000 a year in 2024 was released on Friday.
The 2024 list includes 377,666 public sector workers—from city staffers to police, firefighters and health-care executives. This is up from 300,572 workers in 2023.
At the top of the list is Ontario Power Generation president Kenneth Hartwick, who earned just over $2 million last year, more than double that of the second-highest earner, Nicolle Butcher who is also at OPG. Butcher earned $978,380 as the chief operations officer.
There are hundreds of people earning more than $100,000 in Mississauga but those who earned over $400,000 are in health care and policing.
As in previous years, the highest-paid public sector employee in Mississauga was Karli Farrow, the president and CEO at Trillium Health Partners. Her salary was $676,217.22 in 2024. She earned $668,325.27 in 2023.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah earned $479,916.71, up from $423,050 in 2023.
Senior executive vice president for Trillium Health Partners Jarrett Scott earned $461,760 in 2024 up from $455,141.90 in 2023.
Police Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich earned $421,165.33.
The highest earner for the City of Mississauga was Shari Lichterman at $364,417.56. Lichterman was the city manager and chief administrative officer until she was replaced by Geoff Wright shortly after newly elected Mayor Carolyn Parrish came into power in June.
Former city manager Paul Mitcham is listed as earning $300,230.06 in 2024 despite stepping down in early February 2023.
The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.
The Act applies to the provincial government, Crown agencies and corporations, Ontario Power Generation and subsidiaries, publicly funded organizations such as hospitals, municipalities, school boards, universities and colleges, and not-for-profit organizations that receive $1 million or more, or receive between $120,000 and $1 million if the provincial government funding they receive is 10 per cent or more of their gross revenues.
