One person has been pronounced dead after a serious collision in Brampton today (Sept. 25).

At 12:23 a.m., a crash was reported involving a vehicle and transport truck at Bramalea Rd and Steeles Ave, causing the truck to catch on fire.

Brampton Fire crews responded to the scene and three people were found with life-threatening injuries.

One person has since been pronounced dead, while the other two remain hospitalized in critical condition.

The crash is believed to have resulted from impaired driving, according to PRP Staff Superintendent Sean McKenna, who called the incident “brutal” and “totally preventable.”

“A waste of young lives. Everyone has a responsibility to stop people who shouldn’t be behind the wheel from driving,” said McKenna.

Roadways in the area of Bramalea and Steeles were shut down for several hours and have since reopened.
