Charges have been laid against a man from Brampton after investigators say he struck an officer with a vehicle while fleeing from police.
Peel Regional Police say the incident started as an investigation into a vehicle with improper licence plates on May 26 in the area of Peel Centre Drive in Brampton.
An officer was investigating a grey BMW 525i in a parking lot when the driver “became uncooperative” and took off from police on foot, police say.
The officer gave chase on foot, and that’s when police say the male suspect assaulted the officer and resisted arrest during a physical struggle. Police say the officer suffered minor injuries.
Investigators identified the suspect as David Munoz, 41, of Brampton, and said he was prohibited from driving due to past criminal behaviour at the time of the assault.
Police searched a home in Mississauga on Thursday and say Munoz was arrested and charged with assault peace officer, assault with weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to comply with a release order, and breach of probation.
Police say the accused was being held for a bail hearing.
