Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man who investigators say struck an officer with a vehicle in Brampton.

What started as an investigation into a vehicle with improper licence plates turned into a police chase on May 26 in the area of Peel Centre Drive in Brampton, Peel Regional Police say.

An officer was investigating a grey 2007 BMW 525i four-door with Ontario licence plate CSLJ609 when the driver “became uncooperative” and took off from police on foot.

The officer gave chase and, after a foot pursuit, police say male suspect assaulted the officer and resisted arrest during a physical struggle.

Investigators say the suspect broke free and ran back to the vehicle, and struck both the officer and a marked Peel police cruiser while making a “reckless” escape.

Police say the officer suffered minor injuries.

Investigators have identified the suspect as 41-year-old David Munoz. At the time of this interaction, he was prohibited from driving due to past criminal behaviour.

Now, more than a week later, police say they have identified the suspect as David Munoz. The 41-year-old male suspect is wanted on charges of assault peace officer, assault with weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to comply with a release order, and breach of probation.

Police say the accused was already prohibited from driving at the time of the incident “due to past criminal behaviour.”
