Work has finished on improvements to the Bramalea GO station giving commuters more ways to ride, pay, and park when taking transit in Brampton.

Premier Doug Ford was in Brampton on Thursday to make the announcement that work had been completed on the project which includes a new parking garage with more than 2,000 spaces, a new bus loop, improved pedestrian and cyclist access, and more.

Ford said the Bramalea upgrades will help move more passengers through one of Ontario’s busiest GO stations and will support plans for 15-minute two-way, all-day service on the Kitchener line.

“The new and improved Bramalea GO station is a huge boost for the people and businesses of Brampton and throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe,” Ford said.

Customers can access 18 new bus platforms and a new stop inside Bramalea GO station for Züm, Brampton Transit’s rapid bus service. Other upgrades include a new passenger pick-up and drop-off area, covered bicycle parking, and enhanced safety features including new emergency call systems and upgraded lighting.

The province estimates there will be some 12,200 daily riders using Bramalea GO by 2041.

Completion of the upgrades follows Metrolinx’s launch of Brampton GO Train weekend service last month running hourly in both directions between Mount Pleasant GO and Union Station.

Customers can also now use their debit or credit cards on transit systems in Ontario including GO Transit.

Riders can now tap their card on any PRESTO machine on participating transit lines to pay for fares, or use their smartphone or smartwatch to pay.

Debit tap payments are now being accepted on the following transit systems:

  • GO Transit
  • MiWay in Mississauga
  • Brampton Transit
  • UP Express
  • Burlington Transit
  • Durham Region Transit
  • Hamilton Street Railway
  • Oakville Transit
  • York Region
