Brampton GO Train weekend service launched this Saturday and a few passengers got a free mini-concert during the first ride.

On Saturday (April 8), Metrolinx started the new, two-way weekend GO Train service with trains running hourly in both directions between the Mount Pleasant GO station in Brampton and Union Station in Toronto.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, Brampton Wards 1 and 5 Councillor Rowena Santos and MPP for Brampton North Graham McGregor hopped on the first weekend service train on Saturday morning.

Our residents will certainly appreciate the weekend trains. It’s been a long standing request of the @CityBrampton,” Brown said in a tweet.

Santos and McGregor pulled out guitars and sang tunes, including Elton John’s Crocodile Rock as the train headed toward Toronto.

“Jamming & riding on FIRST weekend GO Train from Brampton to Union & back! Great way to spend an early Saturday,” Santos said.

“Jamming our way to Union Station on Brampton’s first ever weekend @GOtransit service,” Graham added.

Residents were happy get train service on the weekend.

“For the first time since service started in April 1974, there is weekend GO train service for Brampton,” wrote one person on Twitter.

Metrolinx says the new rail service will replace the existing weekend GO Bus on route 31 but won’t service the Etobicoke North GO station.

On the weekends, the first eastbound trip will depart the Mount Pleasant GO station at 7:49 a.m. and the last trip will depart at 10:49 p.m. On the Toronto end, the first westbound trip will depart Union Station at 8:51 a.m. and the last trip will depart at 11:51 p.m.
