Officials will announce funding for nuclear energy project in Clarington next week.

Details are scarce but more information is expected during the official announcement on Tuesday (Oct. 25) morning at the Darlington Energy Complex, according to a press release from Ontario Power Generation.

While a spokesperson said it’s “an investment in a new project,” Neal Kelly, director of Media, Issues, Information Management for Ontario Power Generation later clarified the announcement is an update to the nuclear program ongoing for the last two years.

This summer, Ontario Power Generation announced progress on a 10-year $12.8 billion refurbishment project of Darlington Nuclear Station’s four units. The reactor core of unit 3 was rebuilt.

Ontario Power Generation President Ken Hartwick, Canada Infrastructure Bank CEO Ehren Cory, Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson and Ontario Energy Minister Todd Smith will be on hand to make the announcement on Tuesday.
