New flights from Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

Two new routes to popular international destinations are already in the air out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga while a third will take off the end of this month.

Pearson officials said via social media today Air Canada will begin daily flights to Charleston, South Carolina starting March 29.

A port city founded in 1670, Charleston has a population of just over 151,000 (as of 2021) and is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses.

Meanwhile, WestJet, Canada’s second-largest airline behind Air Canada, began daily flights to Dublin, Ireland on March 1.

The Calgary-based carrier also plans to reintroduce daily flights to Edinburgh, Scotland from Pearson this coming summer.

“The additional flights to these beautiful and historic cities will give our passengers greater choice when travelling to Ireland and Scotland,” WestJet officials said earlier.

The 2024 summer schedule for WestJet also includes more service to European destinations from Halifax and St. John’s, in addition to Pearson, the airline notes.

WestJet officials said earlier the airline’s increased seasonal service in 2024 is “reaffirmation of the airline’s commitment to Eastern and Atlantic Canada’s international air connectivity.”

They added it also “underscores our commitment to affordably connecting Canadians from coast-to-coast to some of the world’s most popular destinations.”

WestJet, formed 28 years ago, now flies to more than 100 destinations in 26 countries.

Finally, Toronto-based Porter Airlines began daily service to and from Las Vegas on March 5 out of Pearson.

Porter previously ran its passenger flights exclusively out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport before announcing in December 2022 its new relationship with Pearson.

Porter officials said earlier Las Vegas “has earned the title ‘entertainment capital of the world’ by offering something for every type of traveller, including magnificent hotels and casinos, world-class shows and events, a diverse food scene and more.”

The route is serviced by Porter’s new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which features a 132-seat, all-economy, two-by-two configuration. Airline officials note there are no middle seats on any flights.
