A busy transit hub in Brampton has been given a new name to help Brampton’s push to become a draw for entrepreneurs and innovators.

Metrolinx and the City of Brampton announced on Thursday (June 29) that the Brampton GO Station is being rebranded as the Brampton Innovation District GO Station.

The announcement saw the unveiling of new window signage in the George St. bus loop, with permanent signage coming to the station and across the GO network and the Brampton Transit system in the fall. The renaming is part of a 10-year agreement with Metrolinx that will give the City exclusive rights to use the word “Innovation” across the entire Metrolinx network.

The station is just blocks away from the Bhive start-up incubator and the city’s innovation district, which is geared towards fostering an entrepreneurship ecosystem in Brampton.

Mayor Patrick Brown said acquiring naming rights for the station will help set the Innovation District up for success and raises awareness of downtown Brampton as a hub for entrepreneurship.

“Renaming the station will support job creation, attract investment and talent, strengthen transit, tourism, arts and culture and other strategic initiatives within downtown Brampton,” Brown said in a statement.

The renaming follows Metrolinx launch of Brampton GO Train weekend service in April, and just last week started running five new evening routes leaving the Bramalea GO and connecting to the University of Waterloo and three new eastbound trips in the morning from the University back to Brampton.
