If you are feeling falafel, you should check out a growing Mediterranean restaurant chain is now serving shawarma in Pickering.

Tahini’s, a Middle Eastern fast-casual restaurant, has opened a location in town at 1889 Brock Rd., giving the chain a second location in Durham Region alongside one in Whitby. A grand opening — with 50 per cent off all bowls and wraps — is scheduled for April 10.

The London, Ont.-based chain has had respectable growth despite the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on indoor dining. Tahini’s co-owners Aly Hamam, Omar Hamam and Ahmed Dessouki are now up to nine locations across the province, and media reports say they are hopeful of doubling that by the end of 2022.

Fusing different cuisines and cultures is part of Tahini’s formula. For instance, their menu includes items such as shawarma poutine and a butter chicken dish. Another unique offering is the Baconizer wrap, where the spit-roasted chicken is complemented by juicy halal beef bacon.

Tahini’s expanded to West Hamilton last summer. Its website also says that there are plans to open in Oakville and Oshawa.
