A 24-year-old man has died of his injuries five days after a 16-year-old boy driving a Mercedes crashed into his Lexus on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, Hamilton police announced.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce the 24-year-old man has died of the injuries sustained during this collision. Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this time,” Hamilton police said in a statement today (June 23).

Police said they are continuing to investigate the June 19 crash that involved a 16-year-old driver, who had a G2 licence, and his passenger, both of whom suffered minor injuries, and the 24-year-old man who was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and has now died.

The incident happened Monday (June 19) at about 1:30 a.m. on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, east of Upper James Street, in Hamilton. The 2022 Lexus IS rolled several times and the 2023 Mercedes YCG flipped onto its roof, stopping about 150 metres from the other car, according to the police’s press release. The collision had closed part of the parkway.

Police said the 16-year-old boy was travelling at a “high rate of speed” but did not specify how fast he was travelling, or if there were any charges.

Police are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who was driving in the area and has dash camera footage.
