All lanes on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway have been reopened.

A 16-year-old boy in a Mercedes was driving fast on a major parkway overnight in Hamilton when he crashed into a Lexus driven by a 24-year-old man, according to police.

Police could not specify how fast the 16-year-old was driving, or if there were any charges.

The 24-year-old driver of the Lexus was taken to hospital today (June 19) with life-threatening injuries, according to Hamilton police. The 16-year-old driver of the Mercedes, who had a G2 licence, and his passenger reported minor injuries.

The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, east of Upper James Street, in Hamilton. The 2022 Lexus IS rolled several times and the 2023 Mercedes YCG flipped onto its roof, stopping about 150 metres from the other car, according to the police’s press release.

The collision had closed part of the parkway in the morning. The westbound direction of the Lincoln Alexander Parkway reopened just after noon. The eastbound lanes will remain closed until the City of Hamilton completes debris cleanup and road repairs, the police said.

The police’s collision reconstruction investigators are on the scene.
