The mild holiday weather is about to end with a big temperature swing in the forecast for southern Ontario.

This Christmas, southern Ontario saw some much warmer than normal.

The average high for Mississauga and Brampton on Dec. 25 is -0.5 C, and the low is -8.3 C, according to Environment Canada.

But this year, the thermometer inched up with highs of 9 C or 10 C in Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton. And the milder temperatures have continued this week plus plenty of fog.

However, the weather is about to change with a swing of about 10 degrees, and that Christmas snow some people were hoping for may finally arrive.

An Alberta Clipper is forecast to possibly bring some snow to parts of southwestern and central Ontario on Sunday (Dec. 31), according to Environment Canada.

The high on both Dec. 31 and New Year’s Day is from zero to -1 C in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Oakville and Burlington.

New Year’s Eve revellers may want to bundle up particularly if joining an outdoor event in Mississauga, Brampton or Oakville. The low could get down to -7 C Sunday night with a chance of flurries in Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville and Burlington.

The low is forecast at -4 C in Hamilton.

This is pretty much seasonable for this time of year. The average high is -1.2 C and the low is -9.2 C in Mississauga, and a little warmer in Hamilton.

The lowest New Year’s Eve temperature in Mississauga was -23.3 C in 1962, and the warmest was 13.9 C in 1965.
