Garbage truck driver in Hamilton dies in crash

Police in Hamilton confirm that the driver of a garbage truck, who was a 64-year-old man from Cayuga, suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel in a fatal crash on Tuesday.

The collision happened on Highway 52 shortly before 9:30 a.m. near the Flamborough Hills Golf Club. Hamilton Police (HPS) say the truck was observed by witnesses as it turned northbound onto Highway 52 from Governor’s Road. The truck then mounted the curb and was kept on the road by the guardrail until it came to rest in the ditch.

“Bystanders were quick to render aid to the man however the male was pronounced deceased a short time later at hospital,” HPS added.

A stretch of roadway was closed for about nine hours. It reopened around 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hamilton Police used a drone unit to help a collision reconstruction team investigate.
