Changes have taken effect for Highway 407 ETR in Ontario.
As of the beginning of the month, some toll rates and fees increased, while eligible low-income drivers are now able to get more free trips per month.
Here’s a look at what has changed:
Toll rates and fees
Highway 407 ETR’s website says that new tolls and fees are in place, effective Jan. 1.
“Toll rates peak during morning and afternoon rush hour when Highway 407 ETR is busiest,” a news release from the 407 previously said when first announcing the new rates.
“Zones with lighter traffic will remain unchanged during rush hour, while a few central sections nearing congestion in the afternoon will see increases of up to 34 cents per kilometre for light vehicles.”
It also appears that the highway has changed some travel times, seemingly extending higher rates for longer periods. Some off-peak rates also changed.
Most customers with a personal transponder will see an average monthly increase of about $5, the release said.
That will vary, of course, depending on how often someone uses the 407 and what time of day it’s used.
The annual transponder lease fee now costs $31.50 plus tax, up from $29.50.
New toll rates and fees have also taken effect for the other vehicle classes, the 407 website says. That includes motorcycles, medium vehicles, heavy single unit vehicles, and heavy multiple unit vehicles.

More free trips for low-income drivers
Also new: the 407’s Route Relief program provides eligible low-income individuals with up to eight free trips per month, which is an increase from six.
The program is open to Ontario residents.
First launched in November 2024, it has provided more than $1 million in free travel for over 2,800 drivers, the 407 said.
Meanwhile, the 407 is also set to launch a loyalty points program this year.
Driving promotions will also continue in 2026.
