Air Canada has suspended flights to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport amid rising jet fuel prices.
Air Canada’s Toronto and Montreal services to John F. Kennedy International Airport will be suspended temporarily from June 1, with plans to resume Oct. 25, 2026, the airline said in an emailed statement to INsauga.com.
Air Canada said they regularly monitor and review their network to ensure that routes are meeting profitability targets.
“As jet fuel prices have doubled since the start of the Iran conflict and some lower profitability routes and flights are no longer economic, and we are making schedule adjustments accordingly,” Air Canada said.
Fuel prices have skyrocketed since Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for jet fuel, in response to U.S. and Israeli attacks. Today, however, Iran announced the passage will reopen for commercial ships during the ceasefire.
The conflict has had an impact on gas prices, and airline ticket prices.
Some airlines have raised prices and others have added fuel surcharges of between $25 and $60 per ticket.
This week, the head of the International Energy Agency warned that Europe had “maybe six weeks of jet fuel left.”
Air Canada continues to fly to LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport 34 times daily from six cities across Canada, the airline said.
Customers with flights booked to JFK, one of the most popular routes from Toronto Pearson Airport, will be contacted with alternate travel options, Air Canada said.
