Air Canada's busiest flight routes to U.S. from Pearson in Mississauga.

Canada’s flagship airline takes more travellers between Pearson Airport in Mississauga and New York City than any other single destination, and within that connection are found the two busiest monthly flight routes operated by Air Canada between the two nations.

Air Canada, which operates more flights out of Pearson than from any other airport in the country, moves travellers each day to and from three busy airports in and around the Big Apple — LaGuardia Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport (New Jersey) and JFK International Airport.

With 258 monthly trips between Pearson and LaGuardia, that route is the busiest operated by Air Canada between the two countries, according to online aviation news provider Simple Flying. It sourced the numbers from aviation data firm Cirium.

Simple Flying notes the route connects the largest business centres in the two nations, adding “…this service caters to high-paying business travellers who enjoy the convenience of LaGuardia’s close location to downtown Manhattan.”

Air Canada operates 10 different flights daily between the two airports.

Pearson to/from Newark, meanwhile, ranks second on the list of busiest Canada-U.S. Air Canada routes, with 193 flights per month.

Again, this route, which at 347 miles in distance is the shortest trip on the list, caters largely to business travellers.

Rounding out the top five busiest Air Canada routes between Canada and the U.S. are Vancouver International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport, Pearson to Los Angeles and Pearson to San Francisco International Airport — all with 155 monthly flights.

According to Simple Flying/Cirium, routes between Canada and the U.S. are some of the busiest in all of the Western Hemisphere.

Beyond Air Canada flights, more travellers who leave Pearson each day on board several hundred flights operated by numerous airlines are bound for New York City than any other single destination, insauga.com reported earlier.

On any given day, some 25 to 32 or more flights are scheduled to depart Pearson for the three New York City-area airports. In return, the same number make the New York-to-Pearson journey.

Stretched over the course of an entire year, an average of 32 NYC-bound flights per day from Pearson works out to 11,680 flights per year — just heading the one way.

Sean Davidson, a senior advisor in communications and media relations for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, which runs Pearson, told insauga.com earlier a relatively large number of flights takes leave of the Toronto area each day for NYC.

“It’s definitely one of our top destinations,” he noted, adding many of the New York-bound travellers are taking the one-hour, 40-minute flight for business purposes.

Still, it’s also a popular spot for leisure travel as well, Davidson added.
