The Oshawa Zoo’s beloved rooster HeyHey is missing and believed stolen in a broad daylight chicken-snatching, an upsetting bit of news for the zoo and for HeyHey’s fans.

The zoo’s Facebook message was full of comments from upset patrons who wondered why anyone would steal a rooster, especially in the middle of the day.

“We hate to have to tell you this, but someone stole HeyHey yesterday afternoon,” read the statement from the family-owned zoo in north Oshawa. “If anyone saw anything please let us know. The staff is so upset as he is a particular favourite of everyone.”

Zoon staff are fairly certain the rooster wasn’t snatched by a coyote or other predator because of the time of day he went missing.

“No, a coyote did not get him. He was last seen by staff at noon. He loves to hang out in front of the barn during the day and goes in for ‘bedtime’ when we close – it would be too busy for a coyote to get him during the day.”
