Woman stabbed in the neck in Whitby prompts manhunt for unidentified suspect

A manhunt is underway to find the man who stabbed a woman in the neck in Whitby yesterday afternoon as she walked down the street with her child.

The victim was out and about in the new residential area at Closson Dr. and Des Newman Blvd. shortly before 2:30 p.m. on May 9. Durham Regional police said while walking the woman was approached from behind by a man who used an unknown object to pierce her neck.

The man then ran away from the scene southward on Des Neman Blvd. The victim then went to a local hospital for treatment and was soon released. The child was unharmed.

Police say they are currently not sure what exactly went down saying they are “working to determine what occurred and are appealing to the public for assistance.” Investigators describe the suspect as a South Asian man, around 20 years old. He has a medium build, stands 5-feet-9, and has short black hair.
