Man finally scores huge lottery win in Ontario after 20 years

An Ontario woman’s retirement is off to a great start.

Hamilton resident Debra Felix bought a scratch ticket just as she went into retirement and scored a huge win.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation announced in a press release Wednesday that Felix won the top prize of $250,000 on the Instant Red Hot 10x ticket.

Felix, who is 56 years old, said she has been playing the lottery with the OLG for about three years and loves scratch tickets.

This marked her first big win.

“I happened to buy this one on the day I retired,” she said.

She learned of the windfall when she checked her ticket using the OLG app.

“My eyes welled up with tears. I went straight to the store to have it validated, and the retailer gave me a hug,” she said.

Felix then shared the news with her mother, husband and children.

“Everyone was so happy and excited,” she said.

With her winnings, Felix plans to save and share with her family.

“I’d like to help out my daughters — they’re both getting married,” she added.

The winning ticket was bought in Hamilton at EZ Mart on Parkdale Avenue North.
