The woman who was pulled out of Lake Ontario in Oakville earlier today has died hours after she was rushed to hospital.

Halton Regional Police responded to Coronation Park after receiving reports of people in distress. Early reports indicated an ongoing drowning after an incident offshore.

On arrival around 10:30 a.m. the HPS Marine Unit located a 10-year-old boy in water. Officers pulled him aboard. He was considered safe and in good condition at the time. While physically unharmed he was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Oakville Fire and Emergency services also responded to the call. They pulled a young woman to shore lacking vital signs. She too was whisked to hospital.

“Despite the lifesaving efforts of first responders and the Hospital Emergency Medical Unit,” police said, the woman died hours later.

The woman and the boy were not related, but were at the park together. Police will not release any further information about the victims “out of respect for the families involved.”

The investigation is ongoing.
