An Oshawa woman is facing charges for assault and property damage following a carjacking in Ajax.

At 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, officers responded to a stolen vehicle call in the area of Salem Road and Taunton Road in Ajax.

The victim was delivering newspapers to a local business when the suspect allegedly entered his vehicle through the passenger door.

“The suspect physically assaulted the victim, pushing him out of the vehicle, before fleeing the area,” said Durham police.

The victim was uninjured.

Shortly after, members of Central West Division responded to a break-and-enter call at a residence in the area of Fruitful Crescent and Sigford Street in Whitby. Police say the suspect attempted to enter the residence but was unsuccessful, then attempted to flee the area but was unable as the vehicle tires became stuck in the grass and snow.

“The suspect would not comply with police commands and the vehicle windows had to be broken for entry. The suspect was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody,” police said.

Oshawa woman Josephine Denny, 43, was arrested and taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.

She is charged with robbery, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and mischief under $5,000.

Denny was held for a bail hearing.

Police have asked anyone with further information, video footage, or dashcam footage related to these incidents to contact investigators at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3768.
