A blast of messy winter weather has Pearson Airport in Mississauga warning of possible flight delays.

The first winter storm of the season is expected to hit much of the GTA, including Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Halton and Durham, today (Dec. 15) and continue into tomorrow. There are snowfall, freezing rain warnings, and weather advisories in effect.

Strong wind gusts of up to 70 km/h are expected to start this morning and persist until Thursday afternoon.

The snow is expected to make for a messy afternoon commute across the GTA and beyond, as Environment Canada has issued warnings and advisories for many cities and regions.

Travellers driving to the airport should take care on the roads and check for delays at the airport.

“Heading to Pearson today?” the airport tweeted this morning. “Be careful as freezing rain and snow are in the forecast for Southern Ontario, making for poor road conditions and visibility. As always, check with your airline before leaving for the airport.”

Travellers can check the status of their flights here.
