Lakeridge Health will be issuing a Call for Proposals next month, the final step in choosing a site for Durham Region’s next hospital.

Competition between Oshawa, Whitby and Pickering has been friendly but fierce as the towns vie to host the newest hospital. All three proposed hospital sites are in the north ends, near Highway 407, to take advantage of new growth in the Region.

Lakeridge Health announced the beginning of a site selection process in June to identify and protect land for a proposed new hospital in Durham and launched a public consultation last month to give members of the community an opportunity to provide input on the process.

Nearly 13,000 people responded to a public survey and the organization also offered focus groups with subject matter experts and a Facebook Live community townhall. The feedback will help the selection panel finalize the site selection criteria that will be used to score the proposals.

“We know how important it is to choose the best site for a proposed future hospital that will support all the communities of Durham Region,” said Cynthia Davis, President and CEO, Lakeridge Health. “So many community members shared their perspectives, and this input will assist the Panel in their work as they review the proposals and identify and recommend a site that truly meets our Region’s growing health-care needs.”

Lakeridge Health will be welcoming all landowners to submit their sites for consideration, and all interested parties will be encouraged to carefully review the final site selection prior to submitting their proposals.
