Dundas Street in Whitby has reopened to traffic just in time for the Friday evening commute after spending the last few days closed due to a burst water main on the street.

The street was shut down between Anderson Street and Garden Street shortly before 1 p.m. on Tuesday. In their announcement of the closure Durham Police said the street would be closed for several hours.

Hours turned to days with the Region announcing on Thursday that the road would be closed until about Friday afternoon. Whitby Councillor Rhonda Mulcahy said at the time the water main had been repaired but the road still required resurfacing given “extensive” damage.

Water service had been restored by then with the Region recommending resident and businesses run cold water through the taps to flush sediment out of the pipes.

The

Los Cabos Cantina, situated right in front of the rupture, was closed for a few days, but have since reopened for takeout.
