Whitby is seeking feedback on the redesign of a local park.

Council is looking to rejuvenate D’Hillier Park, which sits at 99 McQuay Blvd. just north of Dundas St. on the west side of town. The park is home to a small jungle gym with a slide, four swings, numerous trees and a tennis court.

To gather public feedback about what residents want the park’s redesign to look like, Whitby has launched a survey on the features and design for the playground. This includes the overall design, whether contemporary or nature themed, for example, the colour palette, and questions regarding the ideal number of slides, swings and other features.

Additionally, the park is set to get new asphalt on the parking lot and driveway as well as new lights in the tennis court to encourage later play hours.

D’Hillier Park is designated as a “district park,” the Town’s second largest category, designed to “serve the recreational needs of a larger neighbourhood or series of neighbourhoods,” per the town, “They are for primarily active recreational uses including lighted athletic fields, playgrounds, courts and parking areas. Various sports user groups rely on District Parks to undertake the various sports programming for youth minor sports across the community.”

The survey runs from July 10 to 31. After it closes the town will weigh the feedback before presenting a proposal design to the Committee of the Whole later this year.
