Whitby has opened its first natural skating rink at Brooklin Memorial Park, with a second rink at Peel Park still in the works.

The rink sits at 67 Winchester Road East, in the park’s tennis court. It will be open everyday between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., on a first-come-first-served basis.

The rink operates with a capacity limit of 40 people on the ice at a time to allow for physical distancing measures. Skaters are limited to half-hour sessions if there are other people waiting to take the ice.

Residents are required to follow all posted COVID-19 protocols while on the ice including wearing masks and leaving six feet of space around them. Skaters must bring their own skates as they are not provided and the Town highly recommends they wear a helmet.

The Peel Park rink will be set up at 307 Trent Street East in the park’s lacrosse box as soon as possible. It will also be larger allowing 60 people on the ice at a time.
