Whitby, Brampton, Milton, St. Catharines teams big winners at Ontario Lacrosse Festival

The largest youth lacrosse tournament in the world wrapped up last weekend in Whitby with a total of 34 champions crowned in six age divisions, including four ‘A’ Division winners from across the GTA.
The Ontario Lacrosse Festival home base is at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby, but with 388 teams participating there were games played in arenas across Durham Region in Pickering, Oshawa, Ajax and Bowmanville as well.
The tournament ran from August 4-13.
Milton took home the top prize in the U22 Men’s Division, beating Kawartha Lakes 3-1 on the strength of two goals from Chase Forsythe, while Whitby Warriors came out on top in the U22 Women’s Division, hammering Kitchener 12-3.
Dylana Williams (5), Carlie Wilson (4) and Rylan Haslam (3) took care of all the scoring for the home team.

Both games were played August 10.
Whitby came out on the wrong end of the U9 ‘A’ Division final against Six Nations on August 8, losing 5-2, while Orangeville doubled up Peterborough August 13 in the U11 ‘A’ Division final.
Orangeville clubs had a good day on August 13, with the U17 team capturing gold that day as well with a 4-2 win over St. Catharines, thanks to Dylan Sanderson’s two goals, including the winner midway through the third period.
Whitby squeezed by Clarington 6-5 in an all-Durham bronze medal game.
Brampton took home the honours in the U13 Division on August 6, beating Northumberland 4-2, with Alastair Clark and Rex Campbell scoring a pair of goals each for the Excelsiors.
Peterborough Lakers beat Toronto Beaches 5-3 for the bronze.
Also on August 6, St. Catharines Athletics U15 team won the ‘A’ Division final with a 7-4 win over Halton Hills. Isaiah Paul led the team with two goals.
Burlington Blaze earned bronze with a 5-4 win over Orangeville.
