Family Day in Ontario falls on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, giving residents across Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills a much-anticipated long weekend.
While many government offices, schools and businesses will close for the statutory holiday, some retail stores, restaurants and attractions will remain open.
If you’re planning to shop, dine out or run errands, here’s a detailed list of what’s open and closed in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills on Family Day 2026 to help you plan ahead.
Open:
- Many restaurants will be open for dining and takeout, but call ahead
- Most convenience stores and smaller stores
- Most drug stores, including Shoppers Drug Marts
- Movie theatres
- Canada Post (mail pick-up and delivery will not be affected)
- Federal government offices
- Some Starbucks and Tim Hortons (hours may vary at different locations)
- Most community centres in Burlington are open for swimming.
- Tansley Woods Community Centre is open for family fitness and family games
- Skating at Burlington Rotary Centennial Pond is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Glen Abbey and Iroquois Ridge library branches in Oakville will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Milton Sports Centre
- Sherwood Community Centre
- Mattamy National Cycling Centre
- Toronto Premium Outlets from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Other major malls that are open:
– Square One (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
– Bramalea City Centre (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
– Vaughan Mills (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
– Eaton Centre (11 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
Closed:
- Banks
- City Hall/Town Hall
- Most Halton Region offices and services, although all 24-hour/essential services remain open
- Provincial government offices
- Beer Stores and LCBO outlets
- Most major grocery stores
- Libraries
- Burlington Centre and Mapleview Centre in Burlington
- Oakville Place in Oakville
- Milton Mall in Milton
- Erin Mills Town Centre in Mississauga
- Dixie Outlet Mall in Mississauga
Transit:
- Oakville Transit will operate on its holiday schedule between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
- Burlington Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule. Hours vary depending on the route. Follow this link for times.
- Milton Transit does not operate on holidays.
- GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule. Hours vary depending on the route. Follow this link for times.
Garbage:
No garbage pick up on Monday, Feb. 16 (all waste collection will be one day later than usual)
