What GO train riders should know about service next 2 days in Mississauga and Toronto

People looking to travel by GO train this weekend in Mississauga, west Toronto and other regions along the Lakeshore West line should be aware of some service adjustments, transit officials say.

GO trains will run less frequently on Saturday and Sunday due to track work being completed, Metrolinx, the provincial agency in charge of GO Transit, said in an email update on Friday.

The agency added the service adjustments “are required to make essential improvements that will support faster, more frequent GO service as part of GO expansion.”

The less-frequent train service will impact riders in parts of Toronto, Mississauga and areas farther west, transit officials say.

From Saturday morning until end of the day on Sunday, Lakeshore West rail service will be temporarily modified as follows:

• Trains will run hourly between West Harbour GO in Hamilton and Union Station in downtown Toronto.
• Trains will run every 30 minutes between Oakville GO and Union Station.
• From Oakville GO — eastbound to Union Station and westbound to West Harbour GO, some trains will have a 15-to-30-minute connection time to complete the trip.

Transit officials added there will also be some service adjustments to GO trains on Friday due to construction work on and near the tracks.

Regular service will resume on Monday.

Metrolinx said, specifically, the planned construction is taking place on the Lakeshore West line at Long Branch GO in west Toronto and on the Burloak Drive underpass at the Oakville-Burlington border.

“This work can only be completed when train service is modified,” the transit agency said.

The latest service disruptions come on the heels of two consecutive weekends of no GO trains in parts of Mississauga, Toronto and elsewhere.
